United Nations demands $1.3 trillion for “climate justice” ahead of COP30 summit

  • UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres demands $1.3 trillion in climate finance ahead of COP30.
  • Brazilian actress Luisa Mell plans to protest at COP30 by lying naked to highlight the hypocrisy of serving planet-killing foods at the climate summit.
  • Hawaii’s Gov. Josh Green proposes a $100M annual ‘Climate Impact Fee’ on fossil fuel companies to fund climate adaptation and mitigation.
  • Michael Mann resigns from University of Pennsylvania amid social media controversies, while nearly 900 corporations exit UN-backed emissions initiative, signaling a shift in corporate climate activism.
  • COP30’s impending arrival signals a surge in climate activism, marked by escalating demands, innovative protests and corporations adopting greener strategies.

In an escalation of climate activism, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has demanded $1.3 trillion in climate finance, while a Brazilian actress plans a nude protest during the COP30 Summit – to be held in her home country.

Guterres, a former president of Socialist International, has called on the upcoming COP30 Summit to deliver the exorbitant amount and bring about “climate justice.” He stated: “We need to see a significant increase in climate finance from developed countries to support mitigation and adaptation efforts in developing countries.” This comes as developed nations have pledged to mobilize $100 billion annually by 2020, a target yet to be met.

Meanwhile, Brazilian actress and environmental activist Luisa Mell plans to lie naked at the COP30 summit. She will be painted “to resemble a scorched Mother Earth” as a huge fork “pierces” her back. Her dramatic protest aims to “lay bare the hypocrisy of serving meat, dairy, and other planet-killing foods” at the event, as per a press release by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

At home, Hawaii Gov. Josh Green has proposed a “climate impact fee” of at least $100 million annually to combat what he calls the “new climate reality.” The fee, which would be levied on tourism companies, aims to fund climate adaptation and mitigation efforts. Green, a Democrat, argued in a piece published by TIME magazine that the fee “is not just a local solution” but “a model that other states can adapt to their needs.”

Public pushback against climate alarmism grows

Climate alarmist Michael Mann stepped down from his academic role. The scientist notorious for his “hockey stick” graph resigned from his position at the University of Pennsylvania following a series of social media controversies. Mann had been criticized for his activism and inability to separate his advocacy from academic responsibilities.

Conservative author Jerome Corsi shared how Mann’s infamous graph became the basis of climate alarmism in his book “The Truth about Energy Global Warming and Climate Change.” He wrote: “In 2001, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change enthusiastically embraced Mann’s Hockey Stick graph. Following Mann, the organization erased the Medieval Warm Period and minimized the Little Ice Age while declaring that 1998 and 1999 were the warmest years ever in global history.”

Reflecting the backlash against climate alarmism, nearly 900 major corporations have withdrawn from the UN-backed Science Based Targets Initiative. The significant shift saw these entities rejecting rigid emissions cuts in favor of a more flexible approach focused on human welfare. This exodus comes as Bill Gates shifts his focus away from “doomsday” emissions cuts, signaling a broader corporate pivot on climate activism.

As COP30 approaches, these developments highlight the intensifying activism – with demands for finance, dramatic protests, and shifting corporate strategies. The future of climate activism appears to be marked by increased pressure, innovation and a growing focus on practical solutions and human welfare.
